Hello friends,
Last week in ‘How to Write in Mid-air’ I suggested beginning a ‘Today I…’ writing exercise with yourself (on that phone!) In the spirit of sharing, here is the piece of writing from my series of ‘notes to self’ over the past few weeks.
Today I… sensed things weren't good so I got my shoes on quickly. That morning Mum had made no phonecalls to my aunt, so Min went in on the way to work to check.
Min reported, ‘she was okay, but not totally.’
When I got there, Mum could talk, but was distant. Unsure what was wrong with her, I called 111 but couldn’t get through, so although mum said NO to calling an ambulance, I dialled 999. This is the first time I’ve ever gone against her wishes. (I have Power of Attorney for health, but this makes it no easier.) While we were waiting, I made her a coffee and she called me in that throat-trapped slur of a new voice, ‘Karrrerrrn!’
