Absolutely agree about collecting stories of people. I did it with my dad before he died - recorded video interviews - and then guess what? I LOST the recordings. I have loads of old tech (thanks to my previous life as a tech journalist) and I hoard every gadget in case it has those interviews on. Even after I’ve checked something I can’t seem to get rid of it, just in case. I still hope I’ll find the memory card somewhere.
Regarding the vicar, I have experienced the same many times - some don’t even bother to learn their names properly. Vicars are so often a disappointment.
